My First Playoff Bet - An Unforgettable Lesson
Everyone remembers their first playoff bet. Mine was Game 1 of the 2016 first round, Toronto versus Washington. As a Leafs fan, I ignored all logic and bet Toronto moneyline at +210, risking $200 to win $420. They lost 6-2, and I learned that emotional betting destroys bankrolls.
The Painful Lesson
That loss taught me to separate fandom from betting. Wanting a team to win doesn't make betting on them smart. The most expensive lessons are often the most valuable - I never made that mistake again. Every bet now gets the same analytical scrutiny regardless of my rooting interest.
