PRESS RELEASE
Canadian Council of Better Business Bureaus
OTTAWA - (April 29, 2002) - Canadian consumers showed a keen interest in computer sales and services during March and complained most about sales, services, and repairs by new and used auto dealers. The findings are based on an analysis of inquiry and complaint reports received by the Canadian Council of Better Business Bureaus.
Monthly reports from the 14 Better Business Bureau offices are combined to create a national trend that lists the top 10 types of consumer inquiries and complaints. The information provides a helpful measurement tool for the Canadian business economy, according to Bob Whitelaw, President and CEO of the Ottawa-based Council. The top 10 list of inquiries to the Better Business Bureaus indicates consumer thinking on current and planned purchase decisions, while the complaint list points to areas where businesses can work towards improving their customer service, says Whitelaw.
During March, Better Business Bureaus responded to consumer calls with 163,000 instances of service and provided consumers with 73,311 business reliability reports. Access to 24 hour on-line reports are not counted in the current figures, although more than 500 average daily visits are made to the Council’s website.
